1L SA references
I know that generally people use their 1L employer as a reference during OCI, but does this change if you did a 1L SA for your summer job? I would think it would be pretty weird to ask a firm to recommend you to their "competitors."

Would it be weird to ask a firm you worked at as an associate to recommend you to a firm you're lateraling to? Probably not. References are mostly just formalities whereby the firm you worked at checks off boxes that say you didn't do anything to get yourself fired or disciplined for bad behavior.
