Skype interview etiquette
I have a skype interview scheduled with a firm for where I want to lateral. The thing is, the interview is going to happen while I am work. Would it be bad if I did the interview in my office? Or would it look bad, here I am, using my current work resources for an interview for my future job, possibly viewed as maybe using my job's resources inappropriately and I could do the same to them. I am also worried I could be disturbed, or someone may find out I am interviewing for another job, but I do have my own office and can keep the door closed with a do not disturb sign. Otherwise I'd do in a Starbucks, but maybe that would look a bit unprofessional. Or maybe I am just overthinking all of this.

I don't know the etiquette, but I would do it at home or in the office (with the door locked / do not disturb). I would never do it in a coffee shop.

I did a skype interview once from a hotel room with no pants on. Got the job too.

The closest thing I will have done to a Skype interview will be the Corn Challenge Livestream on the 17th via Periscope.

^ Smooth.
I don't think the firm you're interviewing with is going to be worried about your using firm resources or anything like that. The larger concern I'd have with it is the possibility that even with your Do not Disturb sign, someone may pop in halfway through your interview, messing up your flow in the interview and also potentially outing you as looking for another job.
Also generally don't do remote interviews (Skype, phone, whatever) in places that may potentially get busy/loud. No coffee shops, no student lounges, etc.
I'd do it at home (maybe just work remotely that whole day, if possible), or in a quiet room at a library close by, if possible/available. Once I did reserve a conference room in our office and did an interview there, but I wouldn't recommend unless you have a small one you can go to; I ended up in a big one and felt compelled to stay quiet so that my voice wouldn't echo/travel outside the room. You could also run into the problem of someone walking in on you thinking they're supposed to have the room and arguing with you about it; I didn't have this problem with the interview but I have had people argue with me about wanting a conference room they never booked while I had a client sitting there in the room, so I wouldn't put it past anyone.

Pre-law school I had a hilarious, but strange, boss. Would routinely do skype interviews and ask to see the applicant's shoes.Bluem_11 wrote:I did a skype interview once from a hotel room with no pants on. Got the job too.
