I'm super slow right now. My whole group is slow.
I don't care because I'm Lateraling markets in The fall so I like going into the office and doing nothing.
However, it got me to wondering: do associates at other firms get fired for similar slowness? For example, I read on here that PH associates were getting laid off if they were billing under 2000 annualized.
I'm probably on track for 1800ish right now but for the entire month of June and half of May, I've billed like 5 hours total.
Basically I'm just wondering if my firm is actually really generous and if it had been any other firm, I (or someone in my group) would have been laid off already.

If you haven't gotten the talk yet, you're probably fine at this point. You always have a few months of runway even if you get asked to leave.

What practice area/specialty are you in? I think certain practice areas are more prone to this than others.

~5 hours for like 2 months? What group are you in man that's impressively slow.

The fact that OP's had 5 hours in the last month and a half while still being on track for 1800 is also impressive.

No one's going to can you for 1800 hours. If your group is slow as a whole (aka you're not an outlier among your group), then this is even more true.
