Invited to interview by the partner, what to expect?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jun 26, 2017 2:57 pm

A partner at a mid size firm invited me to come interview at his firm, and I don't know what to expect. It looks like I'll be there for three hours, and it looks like there will be other folks interviewing as well.

I've mainly done public interest work though I am still early in my careeer. What should I expect? What type of questions should I expect? I don't have relevant experience but the partner feels I'd be a good fit.

You should expect a lot of people (probably the partner, some other partners, maybe other associates) to ask you questions that will help them decide whether or not to hire you, which may include anything from "So do you like ___ work" to "What did you do at ____" to even "What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

Outside of that it's hard to be more specific with the information you've provided.

I just know I have three different interviews spaced through out the day. I sent my resume but haven't given them my grades, which sucked, but maaaaaybe they won't ask about it since I already have a law job. Who knows though.

Have you really not had a legal job interview before? I don't understand this thread.

Or really any interview; there are a handful of fields that have distinctive interview processes, but otherwise it's all pretty much the standard fit, experience, and interest questions.

No one can really provide anything more specific than that without knowing the type of law/firm/market involved, but standard interview prep ought to be sufficient.
