Wachtell bid worth it?
Curious if it's worth the time to even bid it. Probably like top 10-15% ish at CCN. Was top 5%ish, but that's what one bad grade can do. I'm sure it's worth a bid in general, but I have another offer that I probably would take over anything else. If there isn't really a chance now, I'd rather not travel back to school like a month early and waste both our time. I remember seeing somewhere on here they don't go below top 5%.

Hijacking: what about top 5% at mid T14 (just below the recruiting cutoff) with strong WE?

Re: Wachtell bid worth it?
If you have an offer you'd probably take over anything else, it probably becomes less necessary to care whether or not it would be worth a bid. Worst case scenario is you don't get an invite to interview, so you're exactly where you are right now, or you get an invite to interview and you can decide then whether you'd like to take the interview just to see what super elite law firm hiring looks like.
Maybe there are things I don't know about in all of this, but it seems like a no-lose situation to just throw a bid and see what happens.

It's a lottery and if they are my only bid I assume I'd get an interview whether I am wasting their time or not though.

Ok, now I see the missing piece.Anonymous User wrote:It's a lottery and if they are my only bid I assume I'd get an interview whether I am wasting their time or not though.
I'd probably lean toward just enjoying the offer you already have if you're that sure you'd be happy with it combined with the fact that you think it's that onerous to go back early to interview for a firm you're not even sure you'd want/can get.
Are you only considering Wachtell for interviews, or would you fill your schedule just to test all potential waters (I'm assuming so since you said they would be your only bid, but I just wanted to ensure that's what your plan was)? If you're only entertaining Wachtell for fat stax and exit ops and actually working for the firm doesn't particularly interest you, I would say avoid the draw of prestige-chasing because it's unlikely to be worth it to you in the long-run even if they do give you a shot. If you already have an offer at a job you want and you have good reason to believe it's the right fit for you, just follow your instincts and go with that offer. I certainly don't thing it's worth hand-wringing over whether or not you'd be competitive for it in the first place. If you want Wachtell and would consider taking it over your current offer, then give it a shot and see what happens. But if you're at all doubtful you'd even take the offer at Wachtell if given one, then I guess I don't really see the reason to even bid on an interview.
Then again, this is just one person's opinion and others may think this is all nonsense.

It seems like the fat stacks/exit are an excellent reason to be interested in Wachtell. Preferring a firm because it pays 75% more doesn't seem anything like mindless prestige chasing.UVA2B wrote:Ok, now I see the missing piece.Anonymous User wrote:It's a lottery and if they are my only bid I assume I'd get an interview whether I am wasting their time or not though.

I would think that it's worth your time if you're at all interested in WLRK now or later as a lateral.

Re: Wachtell bid worth it?
They would be for most in this position, but the way I read the OP made it seem like they were happy with their current offer so as to make other firms less desirable. The main thrust of my argument was really it's okay to be happy with what you already have, but if you really think you want Wachtell, then there is no harm in throwing a bid out there.existentialcrisis wrote:It seems like the fat stacks/exit are an excellent reason to be interested in Wachtell. Unless there's some unusual circumstance you're not telling us about, it's not worth a bid with those stats.Anonymous User wrote:Curious if it's worth the time to even bid it. Probably like top 10-15% ish at CCN.

Shocking to witness a B+ in Torts destroy a young OP's future.

Only circumstance is I'd be top 5% if not for my last grade. Sucks that one shitty exam can take a firm off the table, but such is law school I guess.rpupkin wrote:Unless there's some unusual circumstance you're not telling us about, it's not worth a bid with those stats.Anonymous User wrote:Curious if it's worth the time to even bid it. What are the GPA numbers for Wachtell at your CCN if you don't mind me asking.

At CLS, you can bid wachtell pretty safely at the bottom, so you don't have to sacrifice precious bids at the top. I know that for several years they have had open slots during EIP.

Same thing at Chicago. You can bid it dead last. I still didn't because I didn't want to waste twenty minutes.TheoO wrote:At CLS, you can bid wachtell pretty safely at the bottom, so you don't have to sacrifice precious bids at the top. Re: Wachtell bid worth it?
At my p/b school top 10 percent didn't automatically disqualify you. Also I don't remember, but I don't think you can literally bid it dead last, I'd do top 25 tbh.Anonymous User wrote:Only circumstance is I'd be top 5% if not for my last grade. Non responsive to OP- but for others looking at the thread, this was not true at H last year. Bid Wachtell at the very bottom and didn't get a slot.TheoO wrote:At CLS, you can bid wachtell pretty safely at the bottom, so you don't have to sacrifice precious bids at the top. Wasn't quite true my year, actually. I bid it somewhere around #24 out of 30 (last failed bid the previous year was #28), and I didn't get a screener.TheoO wrote:At CLS, you can bid wachtell pretty safely at the bottom, so you don't have to sacrifice precious bids at the top. Holy... What stats do you need at CCN for Wachtell? Top 5% only? That's like Susman level.

Enjoy DLA Piper!
(Seriously, though, you can drop by their suite and they'll try to squeeze you in, even if you unsuccessfully bid them.)

I'll get the interview if I bid, seeing as I'm bidding at most 5 firms, and probably only them. Just didn't know if I had a realistic chance anymore.Wild Card wrote:Enjoy DLA Piper!

This thread is such a humble brag it makes me sick. Between OP and the other dude/dudette who can't figure out whether to clerk for the Supreme Court or not, I can't decide who made a thread more just to brag about how great his/her grades are.

I can't speak to Chicago or Columbia, but the NYU kids that get offers are either AnBryce Scholars or comfortably within Top 5%. This is purely based on anecdotal evidence, so take that for what you will.Thelaw23 wrote:Holy... What stats do you need at CCN for Wachtell? Top 5% only? That's like Susman level.
