I was a litigator for about two years in a mid-sized firm. Then, unexpectedly, I had a non-law opportunity arise based on a connection to a friend I met in undergrad that I couldn't pass up. I explored that business opportunity for about 5 years, but now considering returning to being a practicing attorney.
My question is how uphill a battle am I in for? I may not require much more additional training, but it may not be 0 either. How big a flag is a 5 year gap on a young attorney for hiring firms? I've started applying to firms but have my other venture on my resume.

Re: Coming back to the law
I dont see any big law or mid law firms taking a chance on you. But I think maybe you could go to a smaller firm and then try to lateral to mid law or big law firm from there.

When the lateral market was hotter (2-3 years ago), I saw more of things like this but you had to have the prestige stamp somewhere it seemed (and be corporate).
T14 -> V20 (2-4 years) -> Business Role, Start-up, travel the world, etc. -> [?].
All of the resumes I saw with people like this (more than a handful) got hired at a vault firm (or in-house legal).
OP you will really need to do the networking, with that I am sure it "can" happen but I don't think it will be easy.
