So, I'm at a point where I'm thinking about going out on my own. I most enjoy law when I'm researching and writing, so Inwas wondering if anyone had started a business or hung their own shingle by merely playing a support role. In other words, have you contracted yourself out to firms in an as-needed role where you aren't the primary attorney? You merely write memos or perform research at a lower hourly rate?
I started considering this path as I've tried to figure out the best way to start a firm. I need flexibility and I'm not locked into having my name on the door. Also, I won't be admitted in my second state until September, so i was brainstorming things I could do in the meantime without a license in the state. I can perform non-attorney functions, I can do tax, and I can represent people from my former state.
Have any of you had experience with these kind of contract relationships or heard of anyone doing this? Any advixe is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
