Government vs Small Firm Forum

Hello everyone,

I am a rising 3L at a T30 school and am looking at employment options for this summer. I am in the top %20 of my class but my GPA only recently got this high, so 2L OCI was a bust.

I have two offers on the table - one unpaid government position, and one paid clerkship at a small firm (<10 people). The government position would probably lead to a full-time offer, while the paid clerkship would get me, well, paid.

Looking forward to the dreaded OCI as a 3L, which one of these experiences would be more valuable? Do firms frown upon government positions, or is that a better option than a very very small firm?

If the post-grad offer is a lock, that's always the way to go. Live frugally over the summer, ask for help, try to get RA part time work to cover some expenses, apply for public interest summer funding through your school and outside sources, etc.

What kind of govt offer is it? (AG, PD, AD, agency)?

What does the small firm do?

What are you interested in?
