Week and half Vacation reasonable?

Post by lawstoodent » Sun Mar 19, 2017 2:50 pm

1st yr big law associate. Technically have around 3-4 weeks of vacation.

Is it unreasonable to take 1.5 weeks of vacation in May (~7-8months in). I likely will have very limited access to my computer and I'll be in a completely different time zone.

I'm a first year as well. Took one week off at the end of February. No one cared since at my office people typically use all their vacation days and still hit 2400ish. I’m on track for around there at the rate I’ve been going and I plan on using all my days (25 total this year because of rollover days from the stub year). Planning on taking another week around the end of May. The policies vary from firm to firm, but you typically won’t get coverage unless you take 5 business days off. Whether you actually need coverage is another matter (all my deals signed/closed before (or on the first day of) my February vacation so I didn’t need any).
