Is this thread only for firm positions? Was under the impression firm positions were like non-existent for most students

Re: 1L job search C/O 2019
It's for any type of job hunt info. The reason most are looking for firm information is because of its selectivity and difficulty. If you have info on other difficult to get info regarding jobs (fed gov. etc.), by all means share it for others. But telling people you landed unpaid work at the local DA won't be of much interest to anyone (no offense to those jobs, just that it's not particularly helpful to others looking to get it because the bar to getting it is significantly lower). Nothing wrong with doing that kind of work, but most here are trying to track whether the places they have applied have made movements or if they could still be under consideration.Anonymous User wrote:Is this thread only for firm positions? Hogan DC movement? Recruiter told me today that they're JUST beginning to select people for screeners. Anyone receive one?

Yup. But don't freak out, she said they just started - they're still in the process of reviewing.Anonymous User wrote:I haven't. When should we start giving up on firm jobs and start applying to other non-firm positions? I'm thinking end of February. Is that too late?

Honestly, if you haven't had even a screener yet, it's probably about that time to seek alternative employment beginning next weekAnonymous User wrote:When should we start giving up on firm jobs and start applying to other non-firm positions? I'm thinking end of February. Is that too late?

I feel like LA has been going particularly slow. Some offices don't even know if they'll hire 1L SA's.

I would say end of this month/beginning of next month for some other markets. But I would still say that throwing a few apps within the next two weeks to non firms wouldn't be the worst idea if you haven't gotten any type of response e.g. communication from firms telling you they're a bit behind, screeners, etc.

Good suggestion. Thanks! I've been told after some screeners not to expect to hear anything for another two weeks. The wait sucks.Anonymous User wrote:Caveat NYC, LA has been super slowAnonymous User wrote:For all markets?Anonymous User wrote:Honestly, if you haven't had even a screener yet, it's probably about that time to seek alternative employment beginning next weekAnonymous User wrote:When should we start giving up on firm jobs and start applying to other non-firm positions? Did anyone hear back from Cravath after a screener? If so, what was the turnaround time?

HLS, almost definitely well within top 10% (HLS doesn't release class rank). Non-URM, no IP background.

NYC Law Dept. post-interview ding (not a firm, but might be relevant info for someone; knew it was coming when it had been two weeks and nobody called my references.)

How long did it take after your application submission to get an interview? It's been about 2-3 weeks for me and still nothing so should I assumed that I got dinged?Anonymous User wrote:NYC Law Dept. post-interview ding (not a firm, but might be relevant info for someone; knew it was coming when it had been two weeks and nobody called my references.)

Orrick NY ding. I thought I had a decent chance until I realized they wanted my undergrad transcript. Super splitter, so I get why I was dinged

I think under 2 weeks, but it was earlier in the hiring timeline so they might be taking longer w/ things now - I wouldn't necessarily assume that yet!Anonymous User wrote:How long did it take after your application submission to get an interview?
