Skype interview vs Callback
So i got an email from a TX firm where i applied for a 1L SA. I got an email back in mid December asking me if i would be in town for an interview that lasts about 2.5hrs including lunch. Then i was given a few "callback dates" their words. If i wasnt in town i was offered a Skype interview with 2 attorneys that lasts 30 minutes.
I took the Skype interview. Was the first option a legit callback and am i dumb for not just eating the cost and flying down?

Yes it was a legit callback, but you shouldn't beat yourself up too bad because you can't change it now. Texas 1L jobs are terribly competitive, particularly for people who aren't from Texas (which i assume you aren't because you weren't there over break), so it's a crap shoot anyway and defensible to not go out of pocket for $500 or $700 or whatever.

shit. That was dumb on my part. So if i do well with the Skype interview, i guess ill get invited back for another callback? Honestly have no clue how this works.2014 wrote:Yes it was a legit callback, but you shouldn't beat yourself up too bad because you can't change it now. If you're comfortable doing so, PM me. I think I might have useful info.Anonymous User wrote:

It's an unconventional situation but yes, I would guess if you do well that they are planning to fly you in for a callback. Whether they have some stigma against the Skype track vs the home for break track would just be speculation.Anonymous User wrote:shit. That was dumb on my part. Good news is, if you do well in the Skype interview and they invite you back for callback, they'll likely pay for that. (If TX firms pay for call back travel, no experience on whether this is true or not).

Re: Skype interview vs Callback
You should have done the in-person callback, rather than the skype screener.
I was given between a skype and in-person callback, I chose skype and I got dinged. I don't think it was entirely due to the skype interview since there are other people who still get offered after the skype but I am much more likeable and can develop rapport much better in person, so the skype interview didn't increase my chances of getting offered. I should have used my "charm"

I feel like you just wanted to anon-bitch about something. I agree OP probably should have gone in person, but because you failed is not a decent reason for OP to listen to you.Anonymous User wrote:You should have done the in-person callback, rather than the skype screener...since there are people who still get offered after the skype.
