How do I lateral to NYC quickly?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Jan 04, 2017 11:56 pm

I'm a 3L at a lower T-14 with median grades who is headed to a NLJ250 firm in a secondary. 3L OCI was a total bust. What steps should I take to lateral to NYC ASAP? Btw, juniors at my firm have left for New York V100s, so I know it's possible.

IME, it's very hard to lateral into NYC even from other major markets. Best way to lateral would be to find a niche practice and get lucky that a NYC firm needs someone in that area (think securities, REITs). Otherwise, get to networking.

i would recommend taking the NY bar ASAP (if your market is not in new york). i have seen NY firms deal with having a lateral take the bar, but there are so many NY admitted attorneys that i think not at least having passed the NY bar is a significant disadvantage.
