Licensed in VA but moving to Florida
I was recently licensed in Virginia after rather lengthy C&F review. I'd really like to move to Florida and work as an attorney there. Because of the legnthy C&F review which I am certain would also take place in Florida I am not sure I can afford the wait out that process again. I have a young family and need to earn money. Does anyone have any suggestions for being able to work as an attorney in Florida with my Virginia law license? I realize Florida doesn't offer reciprocity with any other jurisdictions. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Could you delay your move and work in Virginia while you weave your way through the C&F process in Florida?

You can look at immigration work in the private sector, some states allow in-house counsel to practice with license from another state, and federal government doesn't care where you are barred as long as you are. The problem is that getting any of these jobs will be incredibly hard.
You could also look at JD-advantage jobs. Think of contracting officer jobs. This way your state bar wouldn't matter.
I would try to practice in VA (or DC if you can waive in?) first before trying to move to a state with limited job options.*
*It's possible I'm missing other things you can do, but this is what I know.

Do you have any additional skills that might provide support for JD-advantage type positions?zot1 wrote:You can look at immigration work in the private sector, some states allow in-house counsel to practice with license from another state, and federal government doesn't care where you are barred as long as you are.
