Chicago Lateral
I will be starting as a third year lateral in Chicago in January. Any tips on succeeding as a lateral from a secondary market; young(ish) professional groups to join; indispensable "surviving Chicago" resources; etc? Will be buying a house on the Blue Line and working in the loop if that matters.

The front car of the L is usually the least crowded.
There are a lot of shootings but they are very contained in terms of where they occur.

Sometimes its worth it to skip a train and wait for the next one, especially if its a minute behind. Pro tip.star fox wrote:The front car of the L is usually the least crowded.

Sorry to hijack, but I'd love to hear about your lateral process. Would also like to hear from people lateraling from NYC. Thanks, good luck!

Adding Canada Goose to the relocation expenses receipt pile.
Work like a dog for two years. Answer a headhunter call on a bad day. Update a resume from 3L. Say 'yea' or 'nay' to sending resumes to interested firms. Screen. Call back. Offer. House hunt. Accept. Re: Chicago Lateral
I am in a position similar to OP and would like to know more about succeeding and Chicago in general. Coming from a secondary market and can't decide if its "worth" it.
