3L Recruiting

Struck out this year at CCN. What should I do to get something in 3L Recruiting? Help please, I'm terrified. Thanks so much...

I'm also a CCN student who had seemingly struck out at this time last year. I ended up getting a few CBs through mass mail in September and an offer shortly thereafter. Bottom line, you didn't strike out yet. Keep massmaling like crazy and don't think too much about 3L recruiting. Best of luck!

Don't rely on 3L recruiting, it's been super dead this year. Mass mail every single firm with a summer program in the country, 2L hiring can often extend into next semester.

3L hiring is basically for people who had 2L biglaw SA jobs wanting to go to a different firm for whatever reason (moving to another city, trading up, etc.). and even then there are only a handful of firms and those firms are only hiring for specific practices. at my t14, the two v20 firms that i saw were hiring for corporate only this year.

so trying to get hired through 3L recruiting without having had a 2L biglaw SA is a huge uphill climb. most firms will ding you for not having a biglaw 2L SA. you're still in the middle of hiring season OP. it's not too late. it sucks but just mass-mail like crazy to big firms and mid firms in areas you have connections to (no matter how remote). stay upbeat and just send those apps out. it's a numbers game at this point.

Did you work as a SA at a biglaw during 2L summer?

Echoing this, I also received interviews from MM in September and I believe an offer as late as early November.

If you have another career option, dropping out and cutting your losses might not be such a bad idea - especially with low debt - if you couldn't find anything by next semester. In the meantime, delay paying tuition for as long as possible.

I strongly disagree with this statement. Biglaw job is not your only glowing option. Right now, you might think that. In a long term, you can be successful in other areas of law, as long as you don't hate practicing law. There were many posts about how they became successful in solo practice/PE/in-house counsels w/ or w/o big law experience when their peers were feeling like being stuck as a senior asso (of counsel? transitioning into of counsel?) Keep looking guys.

If you do hate practicing law, then, yes, dropping out would not be a bad idea.

Did you get interviews by massmailing from biglaws which did not post 3L hiring? I started to think that massmailing would only work for 2L massmailing and mid/small sized firms.

Mass mail. It's not too late. Lots of people strike out (I did), and then get SAs through mass mailing. It was common at my lower-T14, and this is why even CCN students should be doing it even if you think you're OCI secure.

CCN, I struck out, was panicking like you but ending up with a couple of offers by early October. I found a biglaw job by talking to everyone I knew and asking if they could pass my resume along. My friends submitted my resume to the firms where they had summered, my boyfriend's lawyer friends handed off my resume to HR at their firms, my friend's dad called a partner friend of his, etc.

It's awkward, and you might feel embarrassed, but you gotta hustle. At the end of the day, having someone vouch for you is going to be 1000% better than a random mass mailed resume.

Also, remember that firms are still making offers in the spring as they assess their needs, find out who is clerking, etc. Just keep a positive attitude, do practice interviews, and talk to everyone who might be able to help you out!
