Emailing firm with offer update after being WL

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Sep 07, 2016 5:18 pm

So, I had a callback with a NY firm (V100) on August 15. On Friday August 19, I got this an email from the firm saying they are still interested, hope to be in touch in the upcoming weeks, and I should reach out if I have an approaching deadline.

On Monday August 22, I sent a thank you and reiterated my interest. I have not heard back from the firm. I have an offer with another NY firm that will expire on September 22.

I would like to send the firm I am waiting on an email to let them know I am still interested and that I have an offer that will be expiring in 2 weeks (to give them some time to decide, I have read on here that if you rush a firm it will turn into an auto-ding). I also have an updated resume that I could throw in.

Has anyone ever experienced this before and had positive results? I am looking for any advice, anecdotes, anything

The firm told you to reach out if you have an approaching deadline. You now have an approaching deadline. Tell the firm about it.

OP-

I just wasn't sure if 2 weeks was too far out to let them know and I was also hoping for some advice on how to word the email.

Also interested in learning how to word the email. How do we convey that we would accept the firm's offer over the current offer we have without sounding desperate?

Dear [Person],

The last time we spoke, you expressed interest in my application to [Firm] and asked that I inform you of any approaching deadlines with other firms, while you made your decision. I would like to let you know that {Other Firm] has extended me an offer, and would like my decision by [Deadline]. Despite their offer, I would prefer to work for [Firm]. [I've attached an updated resume.] Please let me know if you are still interested, or if I can answer any questions. Thanks.

Best,
[You]
