Do screeners make money from hiring students whom they screened?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Sep 01, 2016 11:48 pm

I know, confusing question. Put differently:

Do your screeners get compensation/look good if the person they recommended for a callback eventually gets hired?

My original screener at OCI (already received an offer from firm) has been blasting me with emails and texts asking to come for a second look if I'm unsure, sending me reports about why their firm is better etc.

I'm not yet bothered by the amount of communication I've been receiving (in fact, I'm a bit flattered). But it makes me wonder why the screener is trying to so hard to get me to commit to their firm? I don't think I'm unusually qualified to warrant such great interest?

Doubt it, other than recruiting hours counting as billables.

When I interviewed at a DC firm my original screener greeted me before the callback and gave me a little pep talk and some interview advice. She said that she wanted me to do well because it would be a win-win. I get an offer, and she gets to look for for consistently selecting successful candidates over time. Clearly it's not money, but I suppose there's some sort of internal perception reward. It was enough that she took the time to prep me a little bit.

No, not at all. There could be a variety of things going on:

The attorney legitimately likes recruiting

The attorney legitimately likes you

The attorney is an alum of your school and it's not one the firm usually recruits from

Etc

depends on the firm. you get a lot of credit for bonuses for recruiting stuff at some places. it's also good firm citizenship if you're gunning for partner or otherwise trying to make a name for yourself.
