Following up with firms that have been silent post-screeners
I had 20+ screeners at OCI several weeks ago. Some firms have sent rejections, some have extended CBs, and some have said absolutely nothing.
What should I do for the firms (7 as of today) from whom I've heard absolutely nothing? I was extended an offer last week, so I am under a little time pressure, but not a lot. Is it worth it to tell the firms I would consider over the firm that gave me an offer, even if the offer doesn't expire for another 3 weeks?
I am obviously happy to have an offer but some of the 7 "silent" firms are places I'd strongly consider over my "offer" firm. What is the best strategy here?

Depends on the market probably. If this is mostly NY/DC, after 2 weeks you're almost definitely dinged. Some places just don't give the courtesy of a form email - which sucks. If not, some markets move slower so maybe following up is worthwhile in your instance. I mean, the clock is ticking on the offer, so you need to know.

It's not them. It's you.

OP here. I followed up with 5 out of the 7 firms that had been silent since OCI. It turns out 2 firms had actually rejected me a couple weeks back but there was a screwup and the email never got to me. So now I can cross them off my list. Yay!

I said something like "I enjoyed meeting [X interviewer] at OCI on [date]. I wanted to let you know I'm still interested in [Y firm]. Attached is a resume [slightly updated, but nothing material] for your records. Please let me know if you need any other information."Sprout wrote:sorry to hear that :/ curious though, what did you say in the follow up emails? PM me if you wish. Also interested in this, but for TX markets. I've heard of dings and CB's from a particular firm, but so far I haven't heard anything. Does the advice in this thread change?

I'm curious to know who you emailed? The screener or the firm directly for your follow up?

Definitely not the attorney (screener). I emailed the recruiter directly if I had previous contact. If not, there is usually a contact listed in NALP for every office.Anonymous User wrote:I'm curious to know who you emailed? The screener or the firm for your follow up?

Why Is it not a good idea to email the screener? I am in the same boat as you pretty much. Haven't heard either.

Had a screener with a firm on August 3. Still haven't heard anything. Emailed office recruiter, she never replies. Awesome

I emailed the 4 remaining firms that were silent from oci. Within 20 minutes, 3 ding emails. 1 still silent. This was friday.

Re: Following up with firms that have been silent post-screeners
Had a screener five weeks ago with a firm in Atlanta. Followed up with recruiting three weeks ago and was told they were making decisions that week. I haven't received a ding in the mail or email. Am I likely dinged or are they just really slow? I'm a 3L if it matters. I've never had a firm take this long. Max time I've had a ding take is 2-3 weeks.

Transferred from a T4 to a lower ranked T1. Only had two screeners. Been a week haven't heard from them. Probably won't either because my T4 smells like poop on the resume.

If we're talking silence after CBs, I know some firms keep a sort of waitlist while they see how many offers to extend....
