Should I do 3L OCI for namebrand firms?
I worked last summer at a top firm in a smaller secondary market, gained an offer, and while I loved the firm and the people there, I want to get out of the law all together in a couple of years. Would attempting to jump to more of a namebrand firm for example, Kirkland, Latham, or Skadden be wise for business school/non law jobs since my current firm doesn't have a large amount of name recognition?
I was at something like Bryan Cave in St. Louis, Husch Blackwell in KC, Faegre in Minneapolis, or Foley Lardner in Milwaukee/Indianapolis and I am a top 25% K-JD at a T25.

Takes OP down to like 1 of 40 people - no firm is going to go on a witch hunt against their whole incoming first year class on a 1 in 40 chance of catching someone who by all accounts feels the same way they all probably did in OPs shoes IMO.iliketurtles123 wrote:Man you give way too much info in your post, even as an anon

Probably even more than that... OP said "something like" -- could just as easily be in another city, at another firm.2014 wrote:Takes OP down to like 1 of 40 people - no firm is going to go on a witch hunt against their whole incoming first year class on a 1 in 40 chance of catching someone who by all accounts feels the same way they all probably did in OPs shoes IMO.iliketurtles123 wrote:Man you give way too much info in your post, even as an anon

I agree... Not too much info. The paranoia of some people here!RaceJudicata wrote:Probably even more than that... When you leave the law for your b-school job, do you want to be in the smaller secondary market? If so, I would go with the top firm in that market. You aren't going to get meaningfully better (and could very likely get worse) b-school type exit opportunities in that town coming from a higher ranked but out-of-town law firm than you would at the best law firm in town.
Of course, if you'd want to pursue b-school opportunities in Chicago or NYC, then going to a top national firm in that market is going to be much better for you.
This assumes all else held equal.

What do you want to do when you leave the law altogether? For most non-law jobs, the "namebrand" of your firm is not going to matter.

Yup, a quick search yielded that he is in fact Kyle Smith from Dallas, TX studying law at USC with Finance as a undergrad at UT Austin. Bet he won't ever give that much away again...iliketurtles123 wrote:Man you give way too much info in your post, even as an anon
