You gotta talk to someone on the inside. Get the offer first, then talk to someone junior there.
Frankly, you're already unhappy where you are and make less. In my opinion, the new place is still gonna need lawyers, and recent departures can be more of an opportunity than anything. A multi-billion dollar major company isn't going to just completely cut its legal department. They are probably desperate for lawyers at this critical juncture. I think you happened to apply at the right place at the right time.
