2016 OCI Strike-Out Thread

Post by oranges2016 » Thu Aug 11, 2016 8:13 pm

Just wanted to start a thread for those that have struck out at OCI with 0 callbacks or with a few callbacks (but 0 offers) to keep each other motivated.

Mass-mailing like crazy right now, but feeling pretty discouraged. Who else is in the same boat?

T25 top 10% secondary journal. Did 20 screening interviews and had 3 CB pre OCI (been 3 weeks since those CB so I expect no offers). Had many partners say I have great grades, great resume, great personality, and would get an offer with some great firm. Got no OCI CB and feeling pretty down. Mass mailed everyone and nothing so far.

Top 33% at T20 and secondary journal. 17 screeners this week at OCI and nothing so far. Looks like I'm striking out.

OP here. I don't want to be a debbie downer or party pooper around my law school friends, so I haven't been talking too much with them about my struggles. I'm feeling pretty low though, so let's use this thread to vent, motivate each other, etc.

Not sure if I'm allowed to join, but I'm at Yale with all Hs, and my only call back is at a non-market paying firm in a secondary market. If nothing pans out tomorrow, I just really have to hope I somehow convert that into an offer . . .

Do you guys think that there really is a wait stack or are in the ding pile but haven't been contacted yet?

I like to think so. It seems like so many of the callbacks have gone to the same students, so I would imagine firms would need back-up options.

Top 33% at T25. Had 1 OCI so far and no callback. Feeling a bit discouraged but most people at my school manage to find jobs other ways besides OCI. Let's not give up!

God, this thread makes me sad... Median at T25 with seemingly irrational hope. Just know you guys are in a much better boat than peeps like me! :) Good luck to all!

T25 , Top 25%, Secondary Journal- 15+ screeners, no CB, not sure what is going wrong, emergency met with CSO advisor to go over my interviewing, she said she saw nothing wrong- "possibly not enough enthusiasm, but not deal breaking so"

Top 20% at T14. 20+ screeners 1 CB, at a firm that gave 4 offers last year. What is going on?

Really seems anyone outside of the top 10-15% at T20 are getting little to nothing. Sincerely hoping a second wave of CB are coming back.

If it helps at all, I had 0 cbs during OCI week and got four cbs a full week after OCI ended. It's not over yet. I talked to a lot of 3Ls who said they got some cbs two weeks after OCI ended.

I have no idea how people can afford to fly to screeners. It sucks.

I attended a pre-OCI job fair and I've only heard from one organization! Some of them said that they'll wait till after OCI to make callbacks. By Pre-OCI do you mean just mass mailing?

Yes. I've heard of a lot of peeps getting callbacks from mass mailers before OCI even started. Probably the same people that got 10+ callbacks from OCI week, but it probably limits the offers they give out to a certain extent.

Honestly, this makes me feel a lot better. I've had 20+ screeners this week with 0 cbs. I've only received one actual ding so far, so hopefully some of the firms are just a little slower.

IME, the screeners were either bypassed (straight to CB) or done on the phone. It definitely sucks either way, though.

Until you've gotten dings from every firm or you know the firm has extended their cbs and you weren't one of them, don't get down. I was feeling the same way.
