Error in MM Cover Letter
I just realized I've been interested in a position for the "summer of 2016". Worth emailing these firms to try and fix or is it just going to have to be/would make it look worse.

DON'T email firms again, that will only bring attention to it. Often times firms don't read the cover letter, especially when they probably get hundreds of them. Just fix it and keep moving.

If you don't get a response, follow up in 2 weeks or so. Attach all your materials again but with the fixed cover letter. Say "just in case, here are my materials".

don't correct it, just let it ride. They know what you mean, if they're going to ding you for it a follow up won't change that.
