Professional References
What do I do for professional references if I'm afraid that most of my supervisors cannot be trusted to be a reference for me (e.g., if I am worried that my listing a supervisor would cause me to get a pink slip shortly thereafter)? Can co-workers be listed as references? Should I just list three professors and then explain that I am trying to keep my job search under wraps if it comes up?

Re: Professional References
List co-workers, give them fancy titles. eg: If they were your senior, call them a "senior banker" etc. Also if you have a classmate that had a fancy job prior to enrolling in law school, you can use them. eg: John Doe, Physician, colleague". You can also put down people you externed for during the summer.
If you don't have any of those...then um, maybe pick the least damaging ones?
