Tell me all about Tech Transactional, PLS
I've already read the intro to their tech transactional practice group on major law firms' websites.
Can anyone give me more specific experiences about what the practice group does, where I can get more information about this area of law, basically anything about tech transactional?
I have an econ major so wanna work in the field of business transactional especially for a tech world. For some reasons, I did not like M&A, Securities, etc and I am trying to find which practice group I would enjoy most.

I do tech transactions at a large law firm the Bay Area. My work is about half IP/commercial side support for venture financings/M&A/IPOs and half commercial agreement drafting (e.g. customer/vendor agreements, licensing agreements, material transfer agreements, etc.) The kinds of commercial agreements you see depends on the kinds of clients you have.

I think my work would loosely qualify as tech transactional, and the majority of my work is negotiating and preparing agreements: commercial leases, licenses for provision of services, etc.

Thank you very much.Anonymous User wrote:I do tech transactions at a large law firm the Bay Area. Which courses would be helpful to practice tech transactions? What would be exit options?

Do you need a working knowledge about the technology of the clients products/services? Would a degree in engineering get advantages to work in the tech transactions?

Did some tech trans work over my 2l summer
Basic contract principles were required.
Also IP, trademark, and other similar courses would have been helpful. I hadn't taken them but i was only a summer there so it wasn't real substantive. If it were a real associate position, id imagine those courses would be very helpful

Working knowledge is definitely helpful, but not required. Whether a degree is helpful really depends on what client base you have. If you are mostly working with the different app and online-based services SV startups, a degree wouldn't really help much. If your clients are biotech/pharma companies, a degree would definitely be beneficial.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:I do tech transactions at a large law firm the Bay Area. Thank you very much y'all. How about exit options? Is it good for inhouse counsel for, say, an app company (SV startup types)?
