Should I even apply to DOJ Honors?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jul 31, 2016 2:13 pm

I am posting this because I was wondering if I should waste my time and apply for DOJ Honors? Especially since I believe I have 0%. Here is my resume: top 15 school, very average GPA, law review, moot court and mock trial (average on both), two other journals, worked with the USAO for a semester in my district, worked with the local DAs too (where I did a couple of jury trials - misdems & felonies all of which were guilty verdicts), and also did a couple of hearings (juvie to prelims). No judicial clerkships.

So, should I even try? Let me know. Thanks.

No you shouldn't apply. You should save that spot for people with shittier grades and accomplishments.

Until you have a job, you don't have the luxury of not applying to places. Yes, it's a lot of work. But you just gotta keep applying until you get that offer.

As an aside, make sure to apply to all the other honors programs you qualify for.

Not all DOJ honors components (offices) are ridiculously competitive

You have a lot of things going for you outside of your grades. I don't know why you wouldn't apply if you actually want to work for DOJ. There are some components famous for not being as selective, like Tax (and within Tax, I believe Civil is less competitive than Crim). If your PI career services office is competent, they probably know some other less-competitive components.

You probably won't get it, but that's true of nearly everyone who applies. (And also true of nearly every job you will apply for.) it's self defeating to think that way. If you want it you should apply.
