How to answer:
- where do you see yourself in 10 years?
- why should we hire you?
- tell me about a time when you were given an assignment you didn't know how to complete, and the partner has already left.

Is it better to say "your firm" or the actual name of the firm when answering questions about the firm.

Good questions to ask of the screeners?

Any general tips to convert a screener to a CB?

About me: Sub 3.0 GPA after 1L @ T14
Did over 60 screeners to hustle for a job
Got 8 CBs and 3 offers (2 V50, 1 V100) because of my interviews (obviously not my grades)

I've been told by most people I've interviewed with that I interview very well, so I'm hoping I can help those of you starting interview season while I sit around waiting at the office for things to happen on this lovely Friday (lol).

Ask me anything, I interviewed at all Biglaw firms (mostly V100, but some Amlaw 200), and markets were SF/NY/DC/LA. However, I was hoping this would be more about how *I would recommend* answering 2L SA interview questions. Things to bring with you to interviews, how to dress, etc.
Wow, just filled with useless, self-promotion, "look how awesome I am," information.

As others have pointed out, something beyond "your interview skills" is at play here. Also, being at a T14 is extremely helpful. Let's not pretend that someone outside of T14 with sub 3.0 GPA is getting multiple CB and offers regardless of their "interview skills."

Finally, I'll add that "interview skills" (whatever that even means) are little over-rated. It really comes down to whether you are personable, genuine, and appear intelligent. There is no trick to OCI and CB. Go to the interview prepared (know something interesting about the firm) and confident. It is an intimidating process. Good luck.

Just offering to help since I had some spare time, and I think honing interviewing skills are the only value I could add for a rising 2L. Don't worry, I won't make that mistake on this website again.

What are some go-to questions that you ask screeners?

How did you have the time to research up to 60 firms before screening interviews?

I noticed someone already asked above.. but I'm also curious as to how you responded when interviewers asked you about your grades?

OP, sorry about the flame from everybody else.

Did you have any trouble with keeping firms straight doing that many interviews? Did you use some kind of crib sheet or organization system to keep them straight?

Ditto to the questions about what should you ask interviewers. The attorneys I have talked to say that you shouldn't ask generic "how do you like the firm" questions and should try to be somewhat engaging/interesting on what you ask....any tips there would be helpful.

Also, the litigation v. transactional deal: I am leaning toward transactional even though I have a litigation heavy background. My thought is "I am leaning toward transactional work but would like the opportunity to do some litigation projects."

as someone who got 0 interviews through OCI and actually had to "hustle" for a job, the bolded is pretty insulting. oh and btw, with only 8 callbacks from 60 screeners, your conversion rate is ~13%, I don't think you have the qualifications to help someone "learn to interview better."

Not OP, but thought I'd add my two cents b/c your last sentence doesn't really make sense. You say you're leaning toward transactional but would like the opportunity to do litigation. The employer's follow-up question will most likely be..why transactional and why do you want to do litigation projects? You should have an answer prepared.

A better approach would be..I've done a lot of litigation work and enjoyed it, but would like the opportunity to do some transactional-related projects

Edited for grammar

You should realize most of OP's 60 screeners probably came from "actually hustling" in the manner you think you did. Even with good bidding, most T-14 lottery OCIs would not lead to more than 25-30 screeners. As someone who also got 0 interviews thru OCI and had to "actually hustle" for a job, I don't really find OP's comments insulting.

Regardless of conversion rate, 8 CBs for a sub 3 GPA (presumably not T6, or else OP should specify) is an anomaly.

However, I really don't know how OP can actually help anyone here. You can't teach interviewing skills via fora.

Also, don't mean to put on my bigot hat but I have to ask - OP, does diversity come into play here?

No diversity. I'm a white male K-JD, and picked a ridiculous username as to not out myself hopefully ever lol.

To the offended poster above, yes I only got 25ish screeners through OCI, and had to work for the rest. But I'm sure your hustle is harder, so I won't offer advice since I've obviously done more offending than anything else.

Yes, I'm not at a T6, so 8 CBs was an anomaly at my T14, since we had median people striking out with 30+ screeners.

As someone who does OCI for my firm, my only question is how you plan to use the internet to turn people from awkward arrogant assholes or bumbling babblers into wondrous wordsmiths. Truly, this seems to just boil down to personality. It's hard to fake it for longer than 2-3 minutes in a room of intelligent people who have done this before.

tbh I think my personal downfall at OCI was my inability to fake it for 20mins, I think I cared too much about personal honesty in the interview process.

After another year in school, and finishing up an SA, I can say my give a fuck ability has surely died.

I would probably do better now because I'd take the advice I was given before and lie through my teeth about W area of law, in X area of the country, about Y ties, and Z interest in a practice area.

The above is totally serious btw.

This, as another person who does OCI for my firm.

Also, I honestly don't find those CB/offer stats very impressive. If they are, then I must be the Queen of Interviewers.

You obviously didn't read the part about OP's sub 3.0 GPA.
