Follow-up emails re: status after interview

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 05, 2016 3:21 pm

I applied for a lateral position at a large firm in a very small market (AmLaw 200, non-vault). Within two weeks I had a screener and two weeks later I had a callback. It's been a little less than a month now, and I'm starting to get anxious about what's going on. I emailed about a week ago asking for a status update and HR was very friendly. They told me I should hear back within the week. Now it's been a little over a week and I haven't heard anything. Should I send another email? Should I start to worry? I loved the firm and am very excited to join this particular practice group.

Holiday weekend just finished. They're probably focused on getting caught up with all the work they let go since Friday. I'd give it until the end of this week or maybe even early next week.

You're more likely to hurt your chances than to help by pestering. The decision is out of your control for now, so I'd try to relax and find something else to focus on. Sometimes hiring decisions happen later than initially planned. Check back in after another week or two if they still haven't gotten back to you.

Had a couple of interviews earlier this year, and did not hear back at all...is that normal?
Would've expected at least a rejection email?

I've had screener interviews where the interviewer has told me they would be following up in a few days only to have them ignore my follow-up emails, phone calls, and voicemails. With one particular firm, I've been ghosted for about three months now with no rejection or any sort of acknowledgment. Their lateral posting is still available on their website, too.

haha ghosted here too...i never bothered with a follow-up, because i figured silence was the rejection. but i thought after meeting us face to face, we would have gotten a little more courtesy. guess not!

not op here. ive had screener interview via referral from a friend. The screener and my friend are colleagues in different offices. The screener went cold after the initial screener call despite several follow up emails. I thought she would at least give me heads up that they chose someone else. Totally unprofessional especially considering she is a colleague of my friend.
