I'm in my first year as a corporate associate in NY. I have not been incredibly busy, but not terribly slow either (between 130 and 160 hours per month so far). I have not really clocked big bunches of hours on large deals yet. Instead I have mostly been filling my time with one-off projects and I have taken on work from other groups to help stay busy. People keep saying the corporate group tends to get really busy in the fall.
Would it be reasonable to try taking a vacation in August before things pick up? Or will people wonder why I'm taking off when I have only been here five months and haven't gotten fully integrated with the group yet? This is probably at least somewhat firm-specific, but I'm curious to hear general reactions.

If they give you vacation time it is probably reasonable to use it

I think it varies a lot. One associate I met had only taken 6 days vacation in the last two years. Other people I know took short vacations in their first few months at their firms.

Ask someone you trust. Varies a lot by firm. That said, when in doubt, take your damn vacation.
