Laterals - When Did You Get Comfortable

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jul 04, 2016 11:02 pm

I recently switched firms, into a completely different practice from the one I was in. The new firm has good people and the best work in the field, but something feels off. I can't tell if I like doing the new work (went from lit to more transactional / regulatory work) or whether I am really happy with my new digs. Have laterals found that this is normal for the first two months, or indicative of a problem where I went?

I'm typing on my iPhone so forgive any errors.

I also made a similar switch and felt like I made the wrong decision or close to it for about three months which is about when I hit my stride, my plate was full and I really started to get to know some folks. I would say find someone this week to mentor/apprise you of how you are really doing and ask them for ongoing guidance. For me, that was a mid level and a partner (who is a minority as I am a minortiy candidate).

Good luck and don't give up hope just yet.
