I'm an attorney in NYC and this happened in NYC. Had too many drinks while out with a friend who moved away and brought my beer outside while he had a cigarette.
No big deal, a $25 fine. My only reason for concern is that I have another open container from college (drinking on my stoop) so this will be two open containers. My first one was reported on my bar application and no big deal. It was 5+ years ago, I paid the fine thinking I wouldn't do this again.
What is the likelihood this has any impact on my standing with the bar? I'd prefer not to take a day off work to fight an open container ticket but it's obviously worth taking the day off to maintain my livelihood.
Anyone have any experience with this?

It's my understanding that small things like that are only important for applying and being admitted to the bar. After you're already admitted, you're gonna have to do something way stupider to get disbarred. I'm not on the committee or whatever though, and I have no firsthand experience (although I am barred in NY), so this is not an informed reply. It's like a parking ticket basically, NBD. But I'd check with the bar itself rather than TLS.cityattorney101 wrote:I'm an attorney in NYC and this happened in NYC. Yeah people get DUI's all the time and nothing happens. If you got two DUI's they would probably open an investigation into whether you are a drunk.
