Where do litigation associates from top NY firms go? Forum

I've read a lot here and elsewhere about the opportunities for transnational or corporate associates leaving good New York firms. There's some debate about how good and plentiful those opportunities are, but my concern is about litigation associates. Where do they all go?
People talk vaguely about "the government" or "other firms." But when I look on LinkedIn at the profiles of litigation associates who have recently left the New York offices of top firms, it seems that many of them have not landed plum jobs. I'd appreciate information from people truly knowledgeable about this, i.e., current and former litigation associates.

They move onto litigation boutiques or midlaw (lesser pay but better hours). Or they go in-house. Where else is there really to go?

Does anyone have (obviously rough) numbers on what "typical" positions after exiting look like, in terms of hours and pay?

Government is reasonably easy to estimate, but what about boutiques, in-house, non-profits, etc.
