This post is like when I have sex. It started out possibly being a joke, quickly went downhill, and ended in disappointment.

OP, TLS is tough love. People thought you had to be trolling because it was so implausible that someone could not realize that behavior might have repercussions. That should provide some answer to your original question, even if it's not what you want to hear.

Yeah. OP, to use an example that will (hopefully) seem plainly outlandish to you, imagine that someone posted that they could not understand why their employer was trying to terminate them. This hypothetical poster explains in his first post that he is hard working, punctual, and friendly. And then, a few posts later, the OP adds the detail that he was caught embezzling money from his employer.

I imagine you would think that such a poster was: (a) joking around; or (b) lacking basic common sense.

That's essentially how your posts seemed to us. i realize you don't see it that way, but the fact that almost everyone else did should tell you something.

After skimming, I will never forgive myself for missing this.

May the FUCKS be ever in your favor, OP.

FWIW, I think OP is genuine, but is socially autistic/suffers from aspergers.

For those that missed it the cliff notes are:

Things started fine but over time OP found that his co-SA's are freezing him out - especially his cube-neighbor. He goes in and says hi but only gets 1-word answers and often goes the entire day without any meaningful exchange. This is in stark contrast as she appears to be well-liked by the other SA's and is a "chatty cathy" whenever others drop by - which they do with regular frequency. He also assures us that this is unusual and irrational since he's very self-aware, doesn't get drunk at events, is always polite and personable, and suspects that he's being ostracized because the fellow SA's resent him for being tall and handsome.

A few posts later, he reaffirms how chill he is, and on a scale of 1 to handsome, he boned his way through HS/college based on the sole fact that he looks like a Hollywood leading man - who if he told you which one would inevitably out him because his classmates/SA's would just *know* because the similarities go beyond mere uncanniness.

Then he tells us that he hooked up with 2 of the girls in his SA class within the first 2 weeks but never told anyone as he is a perfect gentleman who never kisses and tells but did fall victim to wiley seduction - because it was the girls who came onto him. He does not see any reason for the girls to tell anyone either. He also treated them with the utmost respect and was not rude to them - "during, or after" (probably my favorite detail in this saga).

Then it spirals downward which you can glean from context and your own conclusions.

TCR is to hook up with chatty cathy and any/other female SA's, and rebuild bridges with the bro SA's (that were originally napalmed away by sheer alphaness alone) by sharing details of nip sizes of your office conquests at the next social event.

So you're saying that bringing a dog to my OCI interviews and petting them was not the right move?

I don't understand this. Is it strange to pet your friends dog at a house party? Does this behavior make someone "the" guy?

Also people hate if your too good looking man. Cost me a few jobs.

Yeah, the terrible oppression of being good looking. Such a shame how hard they have to struggle in society.

I think the idea is that it's weird to go to a party and be the guy in the corner petting the host's dog instead of socializing with other people. Could be wrong though.

And no, if you're good looking, you have more opportunities opened than someone not as easy on the eyes. That's just the way the world works. Seen it happen with SA positions and even full time offers. Shit, it even happens at my firm. Which associates do you think we send to our closings?

Nah, it's easier to get jobs if you're attractive. If you're still not getting jobs, it means your personality/intellect/aptitude is really just that bad.

I agree to an extent. really depends on how good looking you are. Being objectively pleasant to look at is fine.

If you have a unique, model like appearance nobody wants that shit around in an office place especially in a law firm.

Maybe different for chicks or on the west coast, but I have experience where supervisors openly debated the overt hotness of a girl in an office and it would be a distraction risk to hire her.

Either way being a really handsome man screws you in most things in society besides getting laid and getting easy treatment from some women.

Not sure how being a handsome man would hurt career prospects. Other guys would want to be around you to up their chances and meeting better looking girls. The only downside I can think of is maybe people will assume you're a dummy; I mean, if you're good looking AND smart, you're basically a superhuman.

Actually, now that I've typed it out, maybe Dan is right. Uglier attorneys will resent better looking attorneys if they're too good looking and reasonably competent.

the only way that i buy the "too-handsome-to-be-employable" argument as a premise is if you're unnaturally short and handsome.

eta: the bimbo complex doesn't really translate to men, and isn't even really a "thing" for professional white-collar hiring. it might come into play when being assigned stuff but nobody is going to toss out a resume* after extending an interview and seeing that the chick's a bombshell.
