If our firm doesn't match how easy is it to lateral?
If our firms don't match, is it possible to lateral as a first year with the reason being that you want to be paid market?

You better pretend to have an actual reason besides more money. It's hard to say how easy it will be without knowing your school, grades, practice area, market, etc.

Yeah need different reason. Law and most other professions are like that. People do so many things for money but couch their motivations as something else. Professional sports, now that I think about it, are sort of unique in people admitting they took a job for the cash.
