I got a peak at an advanced copy of the 2017 Vault Law 100, as well as the regional rankings for Northern California, Boston, and Miami. There are some major shakeups this year. A couple of long-established V10 firms have fallen into the V15, and the lower part of the V30 looks completely different. Also, there's a new #1 in Boston.

As for "winners," I worry about getting too specific, but I'll just say the biggest move up within the V15 was from a firm with a comma in its name. As for losers, there was a firm that I thought would never leave the V30 that tumbled nine spots and now is V40. It's rare to see that kind of fall in the Vault rankings...I'm not sure what happened.

Do you mean the V30 firm that tanked? Again, I don't feel comfortable getting too specific. I'll just note that the firm's headquarters are not in NYC.

This is a big deal. Can you imagine being the people who picked that V30 firm? Now, they're at a V40. Their life is pretty much over.

Based on the Boston comment, I'm guessing Ropes is the V30 that tumbled. Wonder why..

I can't believe I'm joining in this. If there's a new number one in Boston, that would mean that Ropes passed Wilmer. Also, Wilmer would be the more likely candidate for a tumble as their corporate group got raided by Latham a few years ago and hasn't fully recovered.
