Is it ok to come out as a Trump Republican in Biglaw? Forum

I asked this question a while ago but all I got were personal attacks along with assurances that Trump was a joke.

Since a Trump victory looks increasingly likely, I'll ask again: Would your firm fire or otherwise punish someone for speaking favorably about Trump as president? I increasingly find myself in political conversations at the office and it seems unfair that I should have to keep silent while the liberals are given unlimited free political speech in this election.

there's nothing wrong with it. you should out yourself so we can rightfully ridicule you and discriminate against you at work. certainly you are smart and have good reasons for backing up the jokester, so let your flawless argument do the talking and don't worry about other people.

My advice would be to RETAKE. Just hit the refresh button on your life and morals and reapply. I know it's not ideal and will take more work and time but trust me it will pay off!

Do you all really think Hillary (practically an extension of Obama's failed policy) or socialist Sanders would certainly be a better option than Trump? I can't understand mocking someone from supporting someone who at least leaves open the possibility of making some positive progress in this country.

He DEFINITELY would not be my first choice either, but given the alternatives I have no problem with others who bring up this argument.

Interviewed at a firm with two associates. Upon their initial screening they invited the hiring partner in. He comes in with an obviously bad orange spray tan wearing a great big red truckers hat with "Make America Great Again" emblazoned upon it. I held it in. He met me with a handshake and in his thickest New York accent greeted me. I then lost all ability to stifle any sort of a laugh which caused one of the two associates to laugh uncontrollably.

I think this would be an unwise decision, given his comments on women, Mexicans, and Muslims. I'm not saying you shouldn't come out as conservative. I'm just saying it's probably not a wise move to come out as a public supporter of somebody who says degrading and hateful things about women and minorities.

Also: are you a summer or an attorney? (Because if you are a summer the correct answer is hell no do not do this. Attorney with good relationships with the partners you work for? Go for it.)

But for the record, I live in Texas and even all of the attorneys here mock him and his supporters all the time. So there's that.

I think the only way to say you support Trump and not come off as either completely clueless about politics, or worse, a bigot, is to couch it in terms of being a conservative who would pick Trump over Hillary but only because he's the only option left. If you go in talking about how you like his "policies," like the wall or the ever vague "making great deals," you'll look like a fool in front of most sophisticated people.
