% cut for originating a lawsuit/referral?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed May 25, 2016 6:43 pm

If you provide referral to your firm and they end up taking it and make $, how much cut from the award is standard? For example, hooking up your firm with a potential new client with a slam dunk case that your firm's been looking for. I'm a newbie at my firm and I want to make sure I ask for my share.

Thanks in advance.

I believe my firm is 20% of contingency earned. Dunno about hourly rate.

Origination will vary wildly between firms. At my firm I get 10% as a first year, but I'm paid pretty well in base comp too.

At my firm, I would get a solid "good job," and maaaaaaybe a slightly higher bonus at the end of the year. Equity partners get percentages, I get a salary.

Op. What kind of case is this and is it a contingency fee case? Is it a personal injury / med-mal case? What type of work does your firm generally do? How big of a firm are you at? How many partners/associates roughly.
