I attended as a student for 2 years and as a recruiter for 2 years so I am happy to answer any Lavender Law questions you have or just generally give my opinion on LGBT employment matters to the extent it is valuable to you.

Are the law firms only interviewing law students or are they also considering laterals?

You'll find 99.9% of the recruiters interviewing for 2L summer associates and possibly the occasional entry level position. Trying to get a lateral through the cattle call career fair is likely to be difficult.

However, it's a 3-day conference, with plenty of other opportunities to chat with colleagues and learn about lateral opportunities.

Is there a general GPA cutoff in order to receive a screener/call back? Or do they apply each individual school's cut offs? I'm at a UCLA/Texas type school with a 3.0. Thanks!

LL interviews are a cattle call. Bring copies of your resume and transcript. Following up with a writing sample gives you a reason to email those you connected strongly with. Firms will apply GPA cutoffs for callbacks after LL.

There are also career counselors available on Saturday. The "worth going to" nature of the rest of the conference largely depends on your ability to (and perceived value of) network with other LGBT professionals, some of whom may be in a position to hire.

Anyone have a good strategy for how to tackle Lavender Law? Do we need firm specific cover letters?
