da vs ag
Weve done da vs pd. How about ada in largrst county with metropolitan setting vs the state AG of the state that contains that county? Any detailed opinions or explanations appreciated. In terms of prestige, money, exit options etc.

Re: da vs ag
This is like the 18th thread you've started asking about the "prestige" of your ADA job vs something else. Idk why you are so concerned.
AG > DA.

Re: da vs ag
Depends on what you want to do. The AG serves many different functions. Depends which division you work for. I'm thinking starting out, the AG may pay a little better than the DA, but not sure. The salary for the Texas AG positions can be seen on the TWC's site as there usually many postings.

Depends which AG and what section within the AG, and which DA.
So many AG practices/ specialities are deadends since they're so niche (e.g. municipal environmental litigation), with no potential to lateral.

What section in ag would be considered good?

Child support enforcement is nice. Lots of useful family law plus you get a lot of court room time.

Like everything, it depends. As a general rule (re. prestige) USAO>AG>DA>PD.

Any good logical reason why ag is generally better than da?

I am not sure if it is generally better, it is generally more prestigious. In California, DA's usually make a lot more than AG's (counties vs. state), but the AG's office is still more prestigious.poweradezero wrote:Any good logical reason why ag is generally better than da?

To be honest, I weep for whatever jurisdiction in whatever capacity you eventually serve.
Don't care about the job. Don't care about the work. Don't care about the clients. Only care about prestige and moving up.

Re: da vs ag
It probably depends on the state, but are there a lot of entry level positions for AAGs? For most of the AG jobs that come up in Colorado, they are looking for 5+ years experience. I know a few people who got in earlier, but the normal route seems to be working at a firm or DA's office for a while, getting litigation and maybe some other experience specific to a particular AG job, and then moving on to the AG. So it is almost as if AG is the exit strategy if you are a DA and you have gotten as far as you are going to get in your office, but don't want to go into private practice.
Just as an aside, I'd get over this notion of "prestige" as quickly as you can. You start from the bottom of the office totem poll no matter what job you get, and if you want people to not hate you, you better be prepared to act accordingly.
