Grades you've gotten as a 3L without losing your offer

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 17, 2016 12:38 am

This thread is inspired by the paper I just turned in without really finishing.

Any firm that rescinds an offer over a C was going to rescind an offer to someome for any reason anyway

They didn't rescind an offer. And even if you meant no offer, that's just not true. Some firms have strict grade cut offs. These firms don't keep it a secret though and will openly tell you that's the case

Edit: shit, misread the post, my bro was a 2L and got no offered. My bad. Dunno what woulda happened is he was a 3L

B- in my last semester. Firm asked for transcript. Didn't rescind my offer.

I don't know of anyone who has lost an offer based on a 3L grade in their final semester. Although I have heard, second hand of course, that it is obviously a firm by firm decision, but that the course and type of course you receive the low grade is factored in. Also, just as another poster mentioned, if a firm was really looking to get rid of your or someone they could easily use the grade as a reason to get rid of you. On the other hand, if they really wanted you as part of the firm they wouldn't care about a 3L grade.

For example, it was a student at a TTT who pulled a C- in Evidence in their last semester and the offer got pulled. I have heard that elective courses and paper courses such as "Women's Rights and Treaties in the Middle East" wouldn't carry as much weight.

"Elite" litigation boutique (think Keker), got the lowest grade in the class, didn't care.

I got a C+ the semester right after my SA and was freaking out.

My firm never looked at my transcript after my SA, never asked to see it or my diploma after graduation, and I don't think they even checked to see if I actually passed the bar.

I don't think it is going to matter, honestly.

Bullshit interdisciplinary class. Missed a few classes, wrote a terrible paper.

Do really fantastic work this summer and unless your firm has a strict grade cutoff, you're probably fine.

Summer firm says a C will raise eyebrows and probably they'll ask you about it, but doesn't necessarily mean it is a no offer. I think as long as its a singular event, it will still be okay.

v10, grades already below firm "cutoff", all grades below school's median last semester (and not much better in the fall). Never worried about it.

Ugh they just announced 180 at my firm, which stands to lose almost 10% in partner profits and was on Capital's "going to 180 would cause serious problems" list.

Do firms get your transcript directly from the school after graduation or do you physically send them a copy?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
