Summer Associate Travel Expense
Incoming summer associate from a Philly school who's going to summer at NYC. I've been in DC the entire time after exams however and was wondering if its ok to expense a train ride from DC to NYC? firm said will reimburse reasonable expenses, aka from school to firm (Philly to NYC)
Ok to stretch it from DC to NYC?

If they've offered to pay relocation, I'd price both options and offer to cover the marginal cost (if any) of coming from DC. Chances are they'll pay whatever you want without a second thought, but you'll look considerate by offering to pay the difference.

It's hard to say on this one. With this being your first expense you submit, you are kind of walking a tight line to begin with. I would contact someone directly and ask them. As another poster pointed out, they likely won't care one way or the other. But it is probably best to bring it to their attention first.

Op here thanks for the advice. I emailed them saying im happy to pay the difference but the prices are actually the same. Also would be using my student advantage card to get a discount.

Yes. Take the Acela and drink as much as you can. This is not an expensive ticket, your firm does not care.Anonymous User wrote:Incoming summer associate from a Philly school who's going to summer at NYC. This was a really great first impression. I'm happy to pay the difference but there is no difference. So what exactly are you happy to pay?Anonymous User wrote:Op here thanks for the advice. This. They don't give a shit if you spent a few weeks in DC or where you had lunch or if you took the 5pm train which is a little pricier than the 8pm train. They offered to pay relocation and your relocation is comparable.2014 wrote:These replies are wildly conservative, firm absolutely won't care do the Acela and expense the whole thing.
