I use it when I'm fixing one of my own fuck ups, re-doing things, or just generally working on something without adding any value.

I also use it for tasks the client wouldn't want to pay for probably, like updating a closing checklist on a deal is "attention to closing of Project ___"

I suspect 90% of the time it means "last week I wrote down that I spent 1.5 hours on this and can't remember what I did."

I see it a good bit, usually with boomers who used to do biglaw back in the day.

It tends to be similar but even more vague than "review." So I might bill for "Rev Order and Draft Ltr to Client" but one of these boomers might do "Attention to Order and Draft Ltr to Client"

The "attention to" thing casts a wider net, so I've seen it to vaguely describe small tasks, "Attention to pretrial discovery order" might mean reviewing a proposed one or actually filling out a draft, for example.
