Tell me about the Miami legal market

What's it like? Do the biglaw firms that have offices there have particular specialties in those offices? What are decent options for non-biglaw? What are salaries like?

It sucks

Like 25 SAs in the whole city

I can't really answer the more general questions but if you be more specific maybe I'll know something

Are there any realistic chances of a Miami biglaw associate hooking up with a model from Bang Bros?

Florida market is tough as a whole. Do you have ties? You'll likely need them. Miami biglaw is more open to those without ties than other Florida markets but it's still important. As far as the options outside of national biglaw, you have the more regional Florida biglaw firms (Carlton Fields, Gunster, Bilzin, Akerman, etc.), midlaw, and small firms as options. But ties will be even more important with those firms.

Basically, the Florida legal market can be pretty inclusive and there aren't a lot of Florida biglaw SAs which means you have t14 students with ties gunning for them along with the top students from the FL schools. I wish I had more specific information but I'm not a good resource on Miami. I interviewed for Miami SAs but I ultimately decided to work in another FL market and I'm not planning on working in Miami so I don't have a ton of info beyond what I've told you.

In the sense that you will have $1,000 in disposal income and have their twitter username, and in the sense that hooking up will entail paying $1,000 for an hour of sex, and in the sense that bangbros porno chicks are models then yes.

Interesting... So you can make escort arrangements with them via Twitter? I'm going to have try this.

There are lots of corporate in-house positions in the Miami area. When I was looking to lateral to FL the east coast options were plentiful.

Not to thread jack but what about the possibility of lateraling to Miami? Assuming sufficient ties and a reason to be there with prior biglaw experience.

I was actually asking with lateraling in mind, so you're not threadjacking at all.

Seems like a lot of people lateral from New York to Miami. These are TOP candidates though (great NY firms, t14 law schools, ties to Miami, etc.).

I'm a former SA/soon to be associate, so I don't know much about lateral options, but in general the sense is that the firms are more laid back/fewer hours required (with some exceptions) than other major markets, and I know of starting salaries between $120k-$150k. My firm had specialties for this office, and I think that is typical of the national firms in the area, since Miami is generally not as big as other offices like NY or DC.

Non-biglaw seems very difficult to get into without significant ties to the area, small firms seem to consist almost exclusively of people who went to law school in state. But keep in mind that there are (technically mid-sized) regional firms that operate like biglaw and pay in the range I stated above.

What would be some of those regional midsized firms?
