Nothing lined up for 1L summer yet
Anybody have experience with snagging a position this late in the game?
I'm not picky at all and completely fine with something unpaid. T14 school, and resume is solid with plenty of work experience. OCS and 2Ls/3Ls said my cover letters are good, but I didn't send out applications until the past few weeks due to personal reasons. Haven't received any responses apart from "sorry, we're full."
Just checking if anybody here has some insight. Thanks!

Check LInkedin for job postings, especially 1) if you want work in your secondary/home market, or 2) in-house.
When I was a 1L, I got a job around this time of year for my first year. it was at a F500 in my home-market, paid pretty friggin well
But you should probably also send an e-mail to every professor asking if they need an RA

This. And you don't need to send an email to every professor. There always openings around this time, just find a bulletin board.anyriotgirl wrote:you can probably still be an RA for a professor or in the library

You should be able to find an RA position, as others have said, but don't count out the possibility of getting a "real" summer job. I didn't apply to my 1L summer job (which has ended up being my job throughout LS and will be my post LS job) until about this time, and didn't receive an offer until 2 weeks after the school year was over.
All is not lost, and you will find something.

Some federal judges still have internships open. Maybe not in NYC/LA, but definitely in other cities.

Email the head clerk/judges at a few state intermediate appellate courts that would be convenient for you to live in. You'd probably have a job in a few hours. Your school probably allows you do such an internship for credit, too; at the least, it would work towards fulfilling pro bono requirements if the state you want to practice in requires some amount.

I appreciate all the advice! Good to know that some places might still be hiring.

Find a pro bono organization which offers unpaid internships. Preferably choose one in an undesirable area where no one wants to work act.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody have experience with snagging a position this late in the game?

If you're at all interested in doing refugee work in California, we might be able to have you at my organization. Let me know if you're interested!
