It's hard for me to tell if she's correct or if she's being hypersensitive.

I just skimmed it but don't see anything hypersensitive in there, or anything that could be considered "correct" or "incorrect." Looks like she was highly regarded, got sent on an international assignment, busted her ass to be a good soldier for a number of years, then decided it wasn't worth the personal and familial toll and switched gears dramatically. That's basically big law 101. The only thing at all remarkable about this story is how long she seems to have been successful relative to most associates.

I guess she does say that her hours target was 2500 all-in hours, which sounds like ... an exaggeration ... that must be the cutoff for an increased bonus, no way that can be the minimum requirement.

Ah yeah. Well big law being tough for women -- whether outright discrimination or unconscious effects relating to maternity leave, family issues, etc. -- is also sadly typical but not hard to believe. It could be both sexism and performance related, I certainly believe you might have to be even more exceptional to make partner as a woman at many firms.

9 years is a long fucking time. i doubt anybody who is hypersensitive would last that long.
