Yup, I interned there last summer after 1L. It's a small firm and frankly I do not have a good opinion of it. Any questions in particular?

Thanks for the reply. What made it a bad experience? Did you see any rising 3L's receive permanent offers?

Several things turned me off very quickly, but the main thing was that it was an unpaid internship, but they billed out our time to their clients. I must have brought in at least $10k for the summer, but I never saw a dime, which really sucked because I was dirt poor as a rising 2L. Also, it seemed like they had an usually high number of fee disputes with clients.

I did not see anyone get an offer, but I'm sure someone did. I believe the starting salary was $75k.

How is this even legal to not pay an intern when billing out their time? Legitimate question if anyone knows the answer.

Sounds absolutely sketchy. Did anyone speak up about the illegality of using unpaid interns to bill clients? Nevertheless, did you do substantive legal work? What were some of your biggest responsibilities?

No, I did not, and honestly I'm not sure that it's illegal. The law on this topic is fairly grey.

Yes, I did some substantive work like drafting briefs and other filings, but I also got stuck with a lot of doc review.

You'd be surprised at how quickly doc review at $200(ish)/hour adds up.

This can be done easily. If rate is $75hr --> only 133 hours over the course of a summer. not far fetched at all.
