Biglaw Satellite Office? Career Prospects

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Apr 23, 2016 12:41 am

Hey guys,

Does it hurt your career prospects if you work a junior position at a V100 but satellite office? or is it always better (future career prospects) to choose the main office of big law firms?

I define "future career prospects" as future lateral positions in the US or internationally, or nice in-house positions.

Thanks

How big is the satellite office? Is it an office they started or they acquired? I'm going to one in the midwest that is a result of organic growth, but i guess i wouldn't consider it a Satellite seeing that it's 55 attorneys, with plans to grow to 80-100 over the next few years.

Does this actually matter?

Clarity in your statements is clearly not one of your strong suits. Does what matter?

I would imagine that an acquired office carries more prestige than an organically grown office.

An acquired office has its own clients, pre-existing local reputation, and value significant enough to cause it to be acquired. Organically grown could very well be an outpost to serve existing clients of the mothership. It is unlikely that an acquired firm is solely servicing the mothership clients.
