Legal employment besides lawyer? Forum

I graduated from law school and have my j.D. i did not take the bar exam. i joined the military and now my obligation is served. I need a new career and would like to use my J.D., but i do not want to become a lawyer or take the bar. Can any one shed light on what other good careers for a person with a J.D., criminal justice majors (bachelor of science), and military science minor.

I would love to be a professor and teach anything. Teaching philosophy would be proffered. Can any one give me details on how to go about this or the likelihood i will be able to land a job like this?

Becoming a philosophy professor is basically a unicorn job. Did you go to Yale for undergrad and/or law school? You'd have to get a PhD in philosophy which would take you about five years, are you willing to do that? The JD alone is not even close to sufficient to teach philosophy.

I know some school districts will start new teachers with JDs off at the top of the pay scale. So maybe you could teach high school somewhere. Top of the pay scale teachers probably make as much or more than many new non biglaw attorneys.

The options are really slim. There are some unicorns here and there who go as stated above to be philosophy professors, or high-end management consultants, or startup founders, but the fact of the matter is your JD closes more doors than it opens. And the doors that it does open? Law firms, government, and in-house down the road. That's about it.
