It was less of a name change and more of an operations necessity. There are too many subsidiary orgs across the enterprise and communication dealing with consumer product columns had nothing to do with the R&D columns so it made sense to separate the leadership and allow for more focus within the different orgsDesert Fox wrote:Alphabet, really? really?

Sure I get why they are reorging the company. But why isn't it named Google.Anonymous User wrote:It was less of a name change and more of an operations necessity. haha yea we never really got a solid answer on that. Probably to distinguish between the core consumer products (search, +, gmail, maps, hangouts, fi, etc..) from the R&D columns. Also, google just likes things to be themed and apparently alphabetical like the android version names.Desert Fox wrote:Sure I get why they are reorging the company. You know Google still exists as a sub right? Not a shell name...

Holding company name wouldn't fit in the text box.Diplock1 wrote:You know Google still exists as a sub right? Not a shell name...
My point is that Alphabet LLC can own Google Corp. and still do business under Google for all their subs. Using Alphabet as your trade name is retarded.

Right, makes sense. Agree they could have kept Google as the trade name, but the impression I got is that they really want to distinguish between Google products and non-Google ones, like Nest or what used to be Calico and whatever. I saw it more as a signal to the market that the corporate strategy was being altered in a meaningful way, and their entity names should reflect that.Desert Fox wrote:Holding company name wouldn't fit in the text box.Diplock1 wrote:You know Google still exists as a sub right?
