Personalizing desk area during the summer
So I've been working part-time through the semester at a small/mid-size firm, and they hired me on for full-time through the summer. Would it be okay to bring in pictures or other personal-type of shit to put around my desk?

Just personal opinion here but I think bringing in pictures and personal things to your desk while still a law student is a little odd. I could be in the minority though.

Yeah, it could give off the (incorrect) impression that you'll be working there after graduation and you're trying to "settle in" without a firm offer.
I've been working full time for 7 months now and I don't even have my diploma on the wall in my office, but that's a little different and for other reasons.

Re: Personalizing desk area during the summer
I brought in some merchandise for my fave football team (I was DEEP in enemy territory) to put on my desk when I summered, partly because partners would come into my office and comment on how bland my desk was. Nobody had a problem with it except for that it was for the "wrong" team. They ended up being stolen and held hostage all summer, but that was just how my firm rolled. They also told me I could bring in a lamp from home since I hated using the overhead lights, but I didn't feel like dragging one in.
I'd say it's culture-dependent, and you know your firm's culture better then we do.

I brought a small photo of my family in, and that was it. (Obviously, I kept other non-decorative personal items in my desk drawers.) I don't recall seeing other summers have a lot of decorative items around their offices, and even the junior associates' offices were pretty devoid of decorative items. Pretty depressing, now that I think about it.

I adorned my walls with Pastafarian idols and spaghetti strainers during my summer. The firm instructed me to remove them since, in their opinion, Pastafarianism is a parody of, rather than a true, religion. They believe I have forgotten but I have not.
