Loyola Patent Law Interview Program Question

Post by DecisionMaker100 » Fri Apr 15, 2016 6:23 pm

Hey everyone,

I go to UCI/UCLA/USC and I am doing Loyola PLIP this summer. I have a question with regards to the selection of the firms.

Lots of firms I am interested in at Loyola PLIP will be at my school's OCI. And I heard from some people that firms that come to your school OCI may not interview in Loyola for that reason. So my question is:

Q: Let's say I am interested in Firm X that has an office in LA. Recruiters from that office will be at my school's OCI. However, at Loyola, the recruiters from that firm are recruiting firmwide (not only for the LA office). Is it possible for the firm to reject my bid at Loyola because they are visiting my school's OCI?

Thanks!

I haven't heard of that happening, but I know a lot of students at my school (T50 in the South) interviewed both times and felt a lot better about the Loyola interview because the interviewers at Loyola do IP and therefore can be a lot easier to talk to.

Many firms will prefer you interview only once--either at PLIP or OCI. My advice is if you want to do IP, take the PLIP interview over the OCI interview where possible. Talking to the IP group is better for you than talking to someone from a random practice group who most likely thinks the IP group is full of nerds and thinks youre a nerd for wanting to join them. It doesnt matter if theyre not from the office where you want to work. Firms at PLIP either set you up with office-specific screeners or they let you do your callback at the office you prefer.
